New Flagstaff Dental Office of Dr. Bacon

We have broken ground on our new office!  The existing building is 4 levels when including the basement.  This 100 year old building  is getting ready for it's next phase: A dental office.  It was a home originally to the Kochs (rhymes with "Cokes").  Mr. Koch ran the mill for the Riordans.  It then spent many years as the home to the Bledsoe's, a family of 5. The maid lived downstairs. There were also slot machines and poker in the basement! (The basement will have a slightly less exciting use as a residential apartment when the remodel is finished) The house was then transformed into a frat house. One can just imagine all the stories there. It was later the law office of Hufford and Horstman.  The attic was remodeled into a very attractive business area with fantastic views. It was later sold to 2 lawyers and a contractor from whom Dr. Bacon purchased the building in 2014.
The basement and the first floor will be extended southward to allow for
modern dental operatories on the first floor and an as a yet to be determined business below it. The original basement is being remodeled for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment. The original first floor will be the reception area, waiting room, staff room and laboratory for Dr. Bacons dental practice.
The second floor, which used to be the bedrooms for the Bledsoe family, is office space for 3 Flagstaff businesses. The attic is currently an engineering firm.  Lastly, the Carriage house will be converted into a cute Studio Apartment.
There will be 22 parking spots behind the new office as well as on street parking. (Good luck with that). We are hoping to be up and running in March!

Are gold crowns obsolete?

Are gold crowns obsolete?
There are many great tooth colored crowns that are so estheic that even a dentist won't know it is not a natural tooth at first glance.  That being said, why would anyone ever choose gold?  Well, in an area such as your lower posteriors it is possible for some people that it doesn't show when you smile or laugh.  In other words, if it can't be seen, maybe one should consider the other qualities we look for in an ideal crown:
1. Longevity- Gold is the only type of crown that NEVER breaks. They have been shown to sometimes last a lifetime.
2. Feel-Gold feels most like your opposing natural tooth structure.
3. Drilling necessary- There is less drilling needed for a gold crown preparation than all the porcelain crowns available. Sometimes when a lot of tooth structure has already been lost due to decay or fracture
conserving tooth structure increases the long term prognosis for your tooth!
At Dr. Bacon's Flagstaff dental office we make alot of porcelain crowns.  It's nice to know your options and Dr. Bacon will help you decide which is right for you(if you need a crown).

Dental Insurance Flagstaff

Q.I am an individual patient needing several crowns and fillings.  What is the best dental insurance I can get for treatment in Flagstaff?  I am a self employed plumber.

A. Dental insurance companies are there to make money.  Their business model is to insure many people at once through an employer.  They count on the statistic that in a given year less than half the people with their insurance will even visit the dentist.  When you seek dental insurance individually, they know you need work and will seek treatment.  Most dental insurers don't have an individual plan but if they do, it will have a pre-existing condition clause.  Occasionally you may find a policy with a limited provider list where the dentist has agreed to charge a small percentage of usual and customary fees.  Beware of the quality of treatment in this case.  Dental offices run 60% overhead.  If a dentist were to discount 50% off their normal fee, they would actually lose money.  So the only way to do this and make money is to cut some major corners. In dentistry, you often get what you pay for. To see information on dental insurance at Dr. Bacon's Flagstaff office click here

Tooth Colored Implants in Flagstaff

Tooth colored posts! The latest technology for patients receiving dental implants in cosmetically sensitive areas!
A dental implant is a titanium screw that is placed into the bone where a missing tooth used to be.  The post that attaches to this screw has also been made out of the metal titanium until now.  Before the advent of the tooth colored zirconium post, there was frequently a "grey tint" at the gum line where the new implant crown emerged.
With this new technology, a perfectly natural emersion of the porcelain crown from the bone is achieved.
This new post material is extremely strong and there is no worry of it breaking in your cosmetically sensitive area. To find out more and visit our website:  Click here.
